My husband and I took my two children (aged 8 and 10)for a meal here. The landlord was extremely polite and the food was excellent. My daughter accidently knocked her drink over & the landlord replaced it free of charge and would not let me pay for it. I can only speak as I find - the pub was cosy and homely, the staff were accommodating, friendly and very reasonable and the food was better than other pub food we had tried in the area. We left empty plates and I consider this good value for money. We will definitely be back when we are next visiting the area.

Anyway cod, chips and peas we found to be expensive. This would be fine if the food were as good or better. At other places, the Wissett Plough and the Huntingfield Arms for example (I have no connection with either but have an interest in good food at sensible prices and a wish to justify the comments in this review), the fish is succulent and large. When I discussed the above with the landlord, he was immoveable. As far as he was concerned, everything was fine. There was no suggestion by him that the bill be reduced. I advised him that I was local and that I would do my best to dissuade others from making the same mistake as myself. This was my prerogative according to the landlord, and so, for the first occasion ever on websites such as this, I am exercising it. Value 1/10 Ambiance/surroundings 8/10

The historic thatched building is in the classic position of a junction of old country roads and opposite an exquisite rural church. It exhibits all the charm of a traditional English inn and its local life through centuries. The landlord is welcoming, especially with those who enjoy a convivial environment. Service is considerate and friendly and the food and beers have yet to disappoint - make sure you visit 'running on empty'! My family have always found the atmosphere, on our sadly infrequent visits (we live 220 miles away!), has been such that we come away from what felt like a 'friends house'. We feel he and his wife have captured the essence of the East Anglian hostelry sadly missing elsewhere! Enjoy! .....and get a pleasant surprise when you strike up a conversation with him!
