As you see The Barnby Swan from the main road between Lowestoft and Beccles, it is impossible to drive past without stopping at this pleasurably unique Freehouse. Merging what is an award-winning fish restaurant and pleasingly traditional country pub, The Barnby Swan offers a wide range of food and drink suitable for all occasions whether it be a buisness lunch, a romantic meal for two(complete with the finest fresh oysters!), a family celebration or just a refreshing drink thats needed on a break from a bikeride through the quaint village of Barnby. Offering car park space and with a courtyard as well as a fine garden to the rear, the Swan proves a delightfully cosy yet refined place to wine and dine. From the impressive bar through to the Fisherman's Cove restaurant, it decadently displays an amazing range of artefacts, authentic to the vast background and experience of the Swan's owners, brothers Donny and Micheal Cole, in the Lowestoft fishing industry. Amicably greeted and constantly looked after by The Swan's pleasant and hardworking staff, understandably known locally for their charming smiles as well as their efficiency, their enthusiasm can only add to the buzzing atmosphere the Swan enlightens you with. And yet above all else, the vast menu is undoubtedly the Swan's most impressive feature. From halibut to lemon sole served with special cheese and prawn sauce, fresh lobster salad or The Swan's speciality whole grilled dover sole, it's their extensive and delicious menu and quality of cooking which has proved responsible for their sustained success as the most popular fish restaurant in the area. And it is this also, that well-deservedly won the Swan Inn, Barnby, the Best British Seafood Pub award at the 2004 Publican Awards.
