My wife, I and two friends had a meal at the Isaac Walton on Saturday 27th Sept (very early evening). Although, on ordering, we were a little concerned to be told "no mushy peas" - we were very impressed with the quality of the food and service. The Steak and mushroom (in the Pie) was perfectly cooked with a delicious thick gravy and the Chicken with a barbq sauce and cheese was juicy, hot and tender. The Sticky Toffee Pudding, which came with custard (but they served me cream when I asked!) - was to die for. The staff were all extremely friendly, helpful and welcoming. The only negative we found was the pastry on top of the pie - basically, it was tough!! (and I left it - I prefer my mine to melt in the mouth) If you want a pastry recipe to die for, (which will fetch people in for miles around) - please feel free to email me and I will send it to you (I don't see why everybody should have it tho'!)

Visited the newly refurbished Izaak Walton with a group of friends, so different from the old tired pub it was before it closed over a year ago. They only opened again last week but already the food is very good and the service was excellent last night with three real ales to choose from my husband was in heaven. We will be returning and soon and wouldn't hesitate to recommend this real country pub.

Very slow service, over an hour from sitting down till first course was served, service was erratic i.e.out of six people three had finished their main meal before the others had been served. The temperature of some of the food was cool.overall what could have been a very good meal and pleasent night out ruined M.Allen

We visited Sunday Evening to check out the new menu, we had been told that the new managment had excellent reviews. I can confirm the food was great with a good selection; the service was excellent and very friendly which is important to me. Will be returning for the special on Monday evenings, check out the offers!

We booked this venue for my sons Christening as it was close to the church and we had enjoyed numerous meals there before. My husband had been in prior to the date to check that everything was ok and that they had a menu that catered for people with gluten and wheat intolerance. Alarm bells rang when we had seen a sign outside asking for staff and Chef urgently. On arrival we were told they had not booked us in and were told to wait by a surly member of staff – I was mortified as this was a special occasion and we were with our families. The tables were pushed together and we were seated we began to look through the menu there were no items really available for anyone with any intolerance. The starters came the soup was obviously out of a packet and not very well mixed at that. The main courses two were burnt the meat was obviously a rolled joint bought frozen, two main courses were burnt and one was forgotten. The only item to come through the doors of the kitchen that was edible was the cake that I had brought with me. I have never been so embarrassed I was mortified at how disgusting the food service and overall experience was. What an end to a great day. I would never recommend this place it is such a shame as the previous owners were professional and the food was fantastic.

We booked for an 85th birthday party for 14 guests with the possibility of 2 more to be confimed. When we rang the evening before to confirm the numbers we were told, at this stage, that we would not all be able to sit together and we could only have the table for 2 hours. The attitude on the phone was really unhelpful and we were given the option to cancel our booking if we were not happy. {A difficult thing to do when all your guests have been invited.} When we arrived we ordered a drink for everyone in our party and it was a good 20minutes before the drinks arrived. When we were shown to our tables it was quite obvious that our request to all sit together could easily be acheived but they still refused. The Impression was that it was just too much trouble. The standard of the food was fair but no butter was provided with bread for soup, hot desserts were served only warm and coffees needed to be sent back due to being cold. We had to wait for cutlery to be provided for desserts. The service was very slow but would probably have been acceptable without the time restriction on the table. We were actually asked to vacate the table a good half hour before the agreed time, which of course we refused to do. No senior members of staff bothered to address our concerns and when we left it was with a feeling of utter disappointment with what should have been a happy occasion. Needless to say we won't be going back there again.

A regular visitor to this pub. The food is fantastic, we never have a bad meal here. Lovely feel to the place but besides the food the most outstanding feature to this pub is the staff. A young but very professional and polite serving staff, supported and managed highly effectively by the owners. Great in the summer for its beer garden, lovely in the winter for its welcoming real log fire. And as the other reviewer wrote, they have the best chips ever!

The Izaak Walton Inn,is a fantastic place to eat ,either with your family ,or as a couple. The seating is spacious and the tables are arranged into groups throughout different areas of the pub,as if they were in different rooms. This keeps your dining experience more intimate, less disturbing,if you have a family, and much more relaxed. The food is absolutely excellent, the staff are friendly, professional and courteous and they serve the best chips that I've had in any restaurant that doesn't charge you £20+ for a steak.I really can't fault this place for eating out,and they always have at least one REAL ale on tap..All in all it's a great place to dine, and if you go,be sure to book a table in advance..
