Called in to the Ashcott Inn today on the way back from Clarks Village for a quick pint of Otter Ale. I ordered an Otter for myself and a coffee for my wife. The barmaid pulled the Otter before going off to make the coffee. I took a sip, and it was off....badly off. When the barmaid returned with the coffee I told her that there was something wrong with the beer. She held the glass up to her nose and said 'I can smell it'! She asked if I would like something else instead. They also sell Otter Bitter, which is new to me, so I said pour me an inch into glass so I can try it..... IT WAS PUTRID. I spat it back into the glass, gagging I asked for some lemonade or something! Which was given to me. The barmaid said that they had been having 'cellar problems'. I felt sick. It was disgusting. She asked if I would like a Coke or something to help wash away the taste which I accepted....It did not wash away the taste. Here's the punchline........ The barmaid then says (I'm not joking) That'll be £1.50 for the coffee then!!!!!! I had to drive 60 miles home after that feeling as sick as a dog and quite unwell. Most unpleasant experience I have ever had in any pub in the UK. I'm sure associating that experience with my favourite Ale will haunt me! NOT RECOMMENDED

I ordered cottage pie and was presented with what appeared to be bolognaise sauce topped with mashed potato & vast quantities of cheese. This was served with some very nicely cooked vegetables, but as the pie was dry and completely cold in the middle and no gravy was offered I could not enjoy even the vegetables. I told the waitress that the food was cold and she took it away and returned it after it appeared to have been shoved in the microwave. I had by this time lost my appetite and we paid and left. No refund and no apology offered. Never again!!

Visited the Ashcott today. Sunday lunch £7.95 per head. The restaurant was almost empty at 1.15pm, which should have made me suspicious. Food was OK but almost cold. Main meal arrived about 4/5 minutes before the equally cool vegetables. It was all well cooked, but, as I say 'cool'. £7.95 is too much to pay for a single course meal of this type. I pointed out the food was cool, after lunch, and received no response. Sorry Ashcott, but I shall not be back. Mike Spencer.

The proprietors seem to change more than Nigel Mansells gear stick. And they've done away with Stella.
