What a breath of fresh air ! We had booked for sunday lunch for 8 of the family and had an amazing experience, the food was absolutely delicious, the staff were welcoming, friendly and efficient and the restaurant was really buzzing, fully booked and they had a private lunch party in the adjoining marquee - fabulous ! Would absolutely recommend this restaurant without hesitation. The decor by the way, is tastefully done, light and an improvement on the dark and dingy pub that it used to be ..well done Mr Luscombe !

From what was a pleasant Chiltern Hills pub a few years ago, complete with grunting Pot-bellied pig, the "Pub Makeover" fashionista have moved in to give it "that Heals look" and renamed it with all the tackiness of a celebrity owner (although they are not!). Dishes are somewhat excessively priced for what in essence is a "Notting Hill" restaurant transplanted without subtlety into what was a characterful old building. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy dining out in Notting Hill finest when the occasion suits. Despite only being in my mid-forties, the youthful service still managed to give the 1000yd stare over the shoulder when taking my order, clearly prefering to get back behind the bar to resume their witless banter. Now waiting does not generally tax the grey matter to the extreme, but failing to provide one of five dishes ordered in a premium-priced establishment, is pretty poor. For a Thursday, the atmosphere was muted and the place half empty. That was enough for me, I will gladly return to the Five Horseshoes up the hill in Maidensgrove for a real pub experience, a serving landlord and landlady and decent unpretentious food. Forgetting not of course, to call in via the Rainbow, one of the last bastions of decent Chiltern pubs.

This is one of our favourite places to eat locally. The quality of the food and the cooking is always of a very high standard whether you're having soup and a sandwich at lunchtime, a three course dinner in the evening or the not to be missed buffet lunch on a Tuesday. Service is efficient and friendly... I'm so glad it's there!
