We believe we are being targeted by local competition in the area. The comments that are being posted on this site are totally unfounded. Please do not take any notice of previous reviews, please come and meet us and many locals who have returned to the Pub. We are confident that since we have taken ownership that standards have improved considerably. Stuart and Michaela

Went for Sunday lunch this afternoon which proved to be a big mistake! Cold pub, cold food, dirty toilets & poor staff. What a disappointment! Went there back in June & had a great lunch on a nice sunny day. Spoke to the landlord at the time (sadly no longer there) who said business wasn't great. I think it had Cask Mark then as I had several pints of Harveys & St. Austells Tribute which were beautifully kept but todays offering was very ordinary. Can't say I'll be going back! Suggest anyone reading this tries The Halfway House up the hill which server proper pub food consistently well.

My ancestors owned the Flying Horse in the early 19th Century, so I do try and visit occasionally. Last time was some six years ago, packed for lunch, cheery and welcoming landlady, well decorated and excellent food. Today, went for lunch, was initially surprised that we were the only people apart from a small party having drinks before going elsewhere to eat. Barman, uninterested, but took order. We waited twenty minutes before first course arrived, but only after I had asked where it was (no other customers so why the wait). Small portions but adequate. Main courses: a) scampi and chips - chips appeared to be reheated from yesterday, green stuff was probably mushy peas but might have been spinach - or anything else, small quantity of pasta: 2) chilli was off so settled for chicken pasta - big mistake. This was dry unappetising and frankly looked and tasted like last week's leftovers. Bought glass of merlot for friend. When i asked for one had run out! but offered sauvignon and told they had 30 bottles of it. When I asked why the discrepancy, apparently the merlot is popular so sold out! When I tasted the sauvignon, I understood why there was so much. Having read the previous review, I understand why the pub was empty, but clearly they sare now reliant on peole with a past history or previous experience of the Flying Horse. Another review on a different website was even more damning if that's possible. A two hundred year connection is now broken as unless it changes hands to someone who cares, my next visit will surely find it a chinese restaurant - still at least I shall get good service and good food! How tragic that English institutions like this are falling into disrepute. Its not the competition, its not the drink driving laws its the sheer incompetence of the managment.

What a disappointment! It's look so nice from the outside but the services was surly & totally unwelcoming & the ale i tried (Harveys) was stale. When I mentioned this to the bar woman (Who I understand to be the landlady) she seemed totally unconcerned. She seemed to have been enjoying the house spirits a bit too much! One to avoid at all costs!

Following our visit to your pub on Sunday 1st February, I would like to say the following Having a family history in the vicinity, & having visited the pub many times in my younger days, I was totally ashamed to have bought friends & family to the establishment.
