After my Mother & Father-in-law visited The White House for the first time over the weekend, they recommended my partner & I try it. They said they ordered their food which was served within 15 minutes & both said they were very impressed with what they had. My Partner, young Daughter & I decided to go & try it out tonight & I must say there's not one bad word to say! The atmosphere was pleasant, the service was Excellent with all the staff "smiling" :-)...I believe a smile goes a long way! Our food came after a 15 minute wait & it was very, very nice. I will be recommending White House to all my family & friends...

I to am a regular at the White House for the last twenty years. I can assure people that if I thought there was any problems with hygiene or service at the White House I wouldn't have eaten there every day for the last five and a half years since I retired.

I am writing my review of the White House Pub in response to the 2 derogatory reviews I have just read: First of all, I would like to say that I have no connection with the White House except for the fact that my wife and myself, usualy in the company of several friends, have had the pleasure of dining there once or twice a week for over 20 years, and celebrated our 1000th visit there, several years ago! In the light of this, I think I am well qualified to answer the remarks of the 2 respondents: First the review by "Gordon and Debbie", dated 30 Jan 2009,and their comments on the rib eye steaks: The staff at the White House always ask the customer how they would like a steak to be cooked, whichever steak has been ordered, and if the customer orders a steak to be "well done" and the steak is very thick, (sometimes a rib eye can be over an inch thick!), then the steak has to be split up the middle, or "butterflied" in order to cook the middle without "cremating" the outside. Personaly I like mine medium rare and juicy in the middle, "succulent"! It's the best steak I've had, anywhere! As for the chips, they are not the best I've had, but certainly not as bad as described. (Try the new potatoes, they're gorgeous!) Now for the review by G Fotheringham 3 Sept 2008: This is a very good description of the Whitehouse and I have no issues at all with anything he said apart fom his comments on the kitchen staff. I have always found them to be perfecly clean and tidy, friendly, and correctly attired. I feel that the fact you can see everything that goes on in the kitchen is a plus point for the Whitehouse and I've never heard anyone complain. As for recieving chips instead of mash, well, this has been known to happen to me very occasionaly, all you have to do is mention it to one of the girls and it's sorted in seconds! I do think Mr Fotheringham's comments are very harsh indeed, based on a single visit. For the whole of the twenty-odd years we have been going to the Whitehouse, it has been very well run by the same family, who have always had a very high regard for their customers and staff, the variety, quality and value of the food they serve, and the highest standards of hygiene. I do think that both parties would benefit by giving the White House another visit.

We decided to try the White House Inn after reading great reviews. We read that they have the best Rib Eye Steaks around, how wrong can they be. You don't cut a rib eye in half to cook it and then fold it back to serve it. It was dry, taste less and for the chips they were the worst we have ever tasted, they don't even serve proper chips. ( frozen ) We will not be returning to waste anymore money.

My partner and I went to the White House on Monday 01st September 2008. The menu was extensive and sounded excellent value. The food is ordered at the kitchen door and I ordered the lamb and mint suet pudding with celeriac mash and Pat ordered lamb henrietta. The ambience was good and the food was served to us about 15 minutes after ordering. Excellent. However, my meal came minus the celeriac mash but with chips but it was OK. My main reason for posting something on this review board is as follows. When it was the time to pay the bill you have to go to the kitchen door. I could see into the kitchen where two chefs were preparing the food. Both chefs were wearing what could be best described as mucky outdoor trousers, one with a pair of boots on that seemed as if he had been for a walk on the moors and chefs jackets that had not seen a wash for a don't know how long. Neither wore any head covering and one of the chefs was putting the meals together on the plates whilst handling a tea towel that seemed to have cleaned the entrance foyer previously. To say this was off putting is an understatement. If the kitchen staff and management are happy with this standard then please get people to pay at the bar so as they do not see this bad practice. More important though is to get the people together and give them some food hygiene training because it was not being adhered to on this occasion. I will not go back to the White House again which is a shame. The location is good, the menu varied, the atmosphere in the restaurant is fine and the girl behind the bar extremely pleasant.
