Had a fabulous meal at the farmers arms. Freshly cooked food with tasted fabulous, served by friendly attentive staff. Was extremely busy which is always a good sign and still were available to deliver great food. Consistency is key and they deliver every time we visit best pub in gloucestershire in my humble opinion.

We have been staying up in Tewkesbury visiting friends for the weekend and was recommended to go to The Farmers Arms in lower apperley. we went there on Friday 1st November and we had a fabulous time. We didn't realise they had an Irish night on called 'The Paddies Night Out,' it was superb, great food, great music and great atmosphere. The staff were very friendly and very efficient. Couldn't fault a thing. We decided to follow up the visit with sunday lunch on the 3rd november. I have to say it was extremely busy, but the quality of food was amazing. The sunday meat feast was superb as was all the other dishes we ate. Even the desserts were home-made and my baileys and chocolate bread and butter pudding was to die for. I am so glad we were recommended this gem of a country pub. We have even booked for our next visit in December.

Fabulous food served by friendly efficient staff. First time at the Farmers and I have to say its one of the best meals out I have ever had. I am very fortunate to travel a lot and to eat in some very prestigious establishments and I honestly have to say this experience rates with some of the best of them. Its a great country pub with great food and service. The landlord and the team are very welcoming, cracking pub and such a great buzzy atmosphere. Will be going back for more soon what a great place.

I have to say I am so disappointed with people in today's society with 30 pubs shutting a year I feel sorry for publicans. I write this as I attended the farmers arms recently and I have to say they were extremely busy and the service and food was sublime. I actually read a lot of the comments on different establishments to plan meals for me and my wife. Up to now I have chosen this site as a good reference to pubs or restaurants as it is relatively accurate. I will now say on this date in question it was very busy. The staff, however stretched, were friendly, welcoming and efficient. The food was sublime tender and succulent. My wife had monkfish which was very fresh and the sauce was amazing. I had steak and it was the best I have ever had. There were no free tables and there were no bats and the staff were great. Either these people have gone to the wrong farmers arms or they have some nasty vendetta against the owners. This is a great place in a wonderful setting with wonderful staff and quality fresh food. If you want Michelin star food go and have it and pay the exuberant costs and wait just as long but if yo want quality and value for money in a wonderful setting then the farmers arms is it. Go to the farmers arms it really is Michelin quality food for less money in a friendly country pub environment.

Food good. Service poor. Having booked a table, we did not expect to be told that there would be a 45minute to an hour wait for our food when we arrived. However, it was my daughter's birthday and we did not want to make a fuss. We waited for almost an hour before our order was finally taken, another 45 minutes for our starters and then another 45 minutes for our main. We didn't bother with the puddings since it was then 10pm, having arrived at 7.30pm. The waitress was very sullen and plonked the food down on the table. There were many empty tables and not many staff. We did not receive an apology for the long waits so I presume that this is normal service. The live bat in the dining room was entertaining though. I doubt that any of our table of 8 will be returning.

Visited recently with friends and have to say the best meal out I have had in a long time, even the vegetables were superb. Its nice to see quality ingredients cooked to perfection presented well served with a friendly smile and tasted amazing. The Fillet steak was tender, juicy and full of flavour. It melted in my mouth it was so good. My partner had the sea bass which she said was fresh and cooked perfectly. A great pub with friendly staff and owner and great food.

Yet another fantastic meal, served by friendly and helpful staff in a superb setting. Value for money, but no corners cut. If it wasn't for the danger of an expanding waistline, I would happily eat here seven days a week!

We visited the Farmers Arms this year for Christmas day. We were a party of 8 and we all agreed its been the best family Christmas meal we have ever had when we have eaten out. The table looked magnificent, they were all clothed with fabulous flower arrangements. we were very surprised as normally when visited in the past its just wooden tables and cloth napkins. They had gone to a lot of trouble to make the place look super, we even had a round table so they must have gone and hired in tables specifically for the day. The sparkling wine was extremely enjoyable not some of this cheap rubbish you can buy nowadays. There was a delay at the beginning but we were informed that due to the horrendous floods a lot of people who had to drive all around Tewkesbury had decided to arrive an hour early as they didn't want to leave to late to avoid driving home in the dark. I had to smile as we were one of the tables in question. I imagine having 100 people all come in at the same time would cause a delay. However after the short wait at the beginning the food that followed was superb. Couldn't fault a thing. The service was fantastic considering the added pressure of 50 or so early guests. I have to say the food was out of this world and we have booked already for next year. What a fantastic day.

This is the third Christmas day we have visited the farmers arms and I have to say it was brilliant as ever. I felt sorry for the landlord who was struggling with mild pneumonia and should have really been in bed but he struggled on with a pale smile, but he was always there to look after us when needed. The food was great, not sure about the comment, " not enough food etc " we were happily stuffed, couldnt eat another thing. Infact the pub stayed open later than usual so we could relax in the bar on the comfy seats by the log fire and drink coffees and brandy. Couldnt ask for more, friends and family and great food.

We would like to say we visited on Christmas Day and 12th January. We came back on the 12th to celebrate a family engagement due to such a fabulous meal on Christmas Day. The staff and owners could not do more to make our day special. Needless to say our second visit was equally as impressive, no cloth tables and flowers but the tables were elegantly laid with cloth napkins and wine glasses still looked great. The food and service was still fantastic all freshly prepared and served on hot plates. The food looked and tasted amazing. This is one place that will see us again and again.

Just to say what an amazing place great food and great friendly staff. Nothing is too much trouble. They work so hard in trying to make everyone's experience a pleasant one. I have to say I wish I had a pub like this where I live. The food was superb, the pub was warm and cosy, a lovely atmosphere. What more could people want from a country pub.

Had been recommended this place by friends who visit the farmers arms twice a week. We arrived and was met by a very bubbly and friendly guy who quickly served us drinks sat us by a lovely log file so we could warm up. He gave us some menus and went through the special dishes of the day. He was very friendly and couldn't do anymore to make us feel right at home. We decided to eat by the fire in the bar in the end as it was so warm and cosy. Nothing was too much trouble as he quickly laid the table with cutlery and cloth napkins. The food was lush I couldn't believe how we have never been before when we live nearby. I had the Fresh sea bass on prawn and tarragon risotto with a superb sauce and fresh vegetables. It was sublime. My friend had the monkfish tails wrapped in parma ham on dauphinois potatoes with a sun-dried tomato and pesto cream with fresh vegetables. We both had dessert I had the homemade vanilla pannacotta with warm balsamic strawberries and my friend had homemade baileys creme brulee. Both superb. This was followed by a large cafetiere of coffee and truffles. I cannot recommend this place enough. Absolutely Amazing !!!!

May I on behalf of the City of Gloucester Wine Circle thank you all for an extremely pleasant evening. The food was superb, the atmosphere was great, and the staff attentive, courteous and very pleasant. We all, without exception, enjoyed the evening immensely and the consensus of opinion was that we would all love to come again. Thank you all very much.

We had a party of 8 on Christmas Day. We were greeted with a warm and friendly welcome. The restaurant was warm and cosy and decorated wonderfully. The food was superb with plenty of fresh vegetables and meat was succulent and tender. The service was spot on relaxed friendly and attentive. It was very very busy and the food service did take a bit of time but then it is Christmas Day and we were there to relax and enjoy great food and spend time with family and friends. Its a shame the other table weren't satisfied but in our opinion everyone on our table thoroughly enjoyed their meals and the whole occasion. We have actually booked already for next year it was that good.

We arrived in a party of 11 and had to find our own table. We were not attended to and had a 50 minute wait for the starters. The staff were extremely overworked and we did not once get asked what drinks we required when i witnessed other tables being served. When the xmas dinner finally arrived portions were smalland not enough veg for our table. Our table was that hemmed in 6 people had to move to let anyone out.The whole ordeal lasted 3 and a half hours. The worst servicei have ever encountered. We went last year and it was good. I will never go back.

I took my wife to the farmers arms apperley, what a great experience, they looked after me and my wife superbly well. The food was fresh, cooked to a high standard. We could not fault it in any way. The tipsy pork was lovely and my wife's seafood sensation well i wasn't allowed any as she had scoffed it all. What a lovely place, lovely people and lovely food. I have to say go there for a night out for an occasion, not for quick fast food. Everything they try to do is quality, home cooked, freshly prepared food, theses things done well, like they do, cannot be rushed, just savoured and enjoyed.

Recently visited the farmers after receiving very positive recommendation from our friends. I have to say it is truly a lovely friendly environment. Everyone was smiling and welcoming. The food was superb, we noticed the previous comment about the lamb, which when I had it the flavours were beautiful and the lamb was very tender. My wife had the seafood linguini that was delicious and packed full of fish. Our Friends who had the madgetss free range duck and the Ribeye steak said there meals superb. We will going back soon. It is nice to find a place that really cares about what they are doing. A great country pub !!

We visited on a busy Saturday evening with a party of 9, a family birthday occasion. The pub itself is welcoming, friendly and a lovely setting. I have to say though that although the rest of our party were very happy with their meals, my husband and I were very unhappy with our fillets of welsh lamb, we were embarrassed at having to regularly remove bits of gristle and chewy residue from our mouths throughout the meal. At a cost of £16.95 each, totalling nearly £34 for both our dishes, we were very disappointed and my husband commented so to the young waitress how chewy the lamb was. We received no feedback or apology. We don't usually complain about food when eating out especially as a member of our party had booked the table for her birthday, but to pay such a lot for a very poor meal was not on. I would say that the other meals were perfectly fine, the veg and potatoes were lovely, it was simply the lamb. I'm afraid we wouldn't go back on principle! A costly but disappointing meal. I am sure if you visit and avoid the lamb you will have a lovely meal, but if you do have cause to complain then don't expect anything to be done about it. For my husband and I and young daughter (for whom we paid for a full price meal as no childrens' meals offered), the bill totalled £74 for our share inc. drinks. 'Disappointed' from Stroud!

We are house sitting in Apperly for a week. We decided to make this a holiday and to have meals out frequently. The Farmers Arms treated us very well the food was excellant and the service was warm and friendly. The second occasion there were four of us plus an 18mth old baby, The preperation and the availability of a high chair helped the child parents to have a relaxed lunch.they also wanted to add how good their burgers were. We look forward to our next visit.

I would like to say, as the landlord of the farmers arms, that we endeavour to deliver excellent food and service at all times. As our food is always cooked fresh to order on busy nights things can take longer than usual. On the night in question you were made aware that "things would take a while" as you had not booked and we were extremely busy, my only regret now is instead of trying to create a table for you, it would have been a better idea, under the circumstances to have apologised and simply say we were full. However I tried to do you a favour by finding a table for you on a sat night at 8.20pm, when we were full, realising you would not be able to get in anywhere else. This is something i truly regret now and hindsight being a wonderful thing i should of let you try to find somewhere else to eat. I am truly sorry however, that after i went to such lengths you were very unhappy with the evening.I am a very passionate person and i will always try to protect my team and my business which i believe anyone would do when put in a position as i was that night. I do feel, if the complaint was made in an appropriate manner, quietly and not shouting and being insulting to me and my team, then the way i handled the complaint would have been different. I was probably defensive, when faced with your complaint, as i have never experienced or had to deal with a complaint made in such an angry and in such an aggressive manner. Even my member of staff was nearly in tears and scared of approaching your table. However, if by quietly explaining to you that The food actually had taken 48 mins, not an hour and a half which you were loudly suggesting, which i had proof of, at the time, which you refused to see. And by explaining to you the lasagne had been made fresh prior to evening service,of which my wife had made 12 portions all from the same batch, and we had sold all the portions made that evening, and all the people had complimented the chef on the lasagne being lovely. If Talking to you in such a quiet maner and explaining my point of view in this way was wrong then i apologise again. I dont feel this was being too defensive and wrong but actually just factual. It only seems sensible that all the portions of lasagne would be the same as they were made from one batch, but when you turn round shouting it wasnt a lasagne then i have to decide that the lasagne wasnt the problem. The complaint on the lasagne was rediculous as several other people made it clear that their lasagnes were fine as they were leaving. They made these comments because they were there and in earshot of your complaint and all thought you were wrong in the way in which the complaint was made. Not once did i discuss with anyone except the chefs about you complaint, infact telling other people about your complaint is the last thing i would ever want other people to hear.infact after the complaint i was very upset about what had transpired and kept to myself for a while and it was infact several other people who commented on the lasagne and the way in which the complaint was made over the bar as they were leaving and whilst your friend was paying the bill, so the accusations about me shouting and discussing it with other customers is absolute rubbish. The previous gentleman who made a review isnot a friend of mine, but is someone who eats here from time to time and we appreciate his continued support and i had no knowledge of his review until he came in with his wife and mentioned it. Infact it was only due to him telling me of his review that i realised that you had made such a damning review. He wrote his point of view of the events that occurred and as you are entitled to your opinion so then must he be allowed his. Further more i have no pleasure in reliving the past and in my opinion this needs to be left there. Especially considering that I had apologised on the evening, i had taken the lasagne off your bill refunded half the cost of the pork belly dish and complimented you a bottle of wine and a round of drinks. This apology, whether i could have possibly made it differently in your opinion came to a total of £35.00. I feel this was sufficient an apology at the time. Normally as an extra apology to that made on the night i would have invited you and your friends for a complimentary meal and drinks to create a level of goodwill between us. As you have made it sufficiently clear you wont be returning and have actually turned this into a personal issue i will not be extending this offer to yourselves. However please except my sincere apologies and i just hope we can leave this in the past. I wish you all a happy and successful future.

I would just like to say that whoever wrote the last review must be a friend of the landlords it was myself and my partner that were regulars to the farmers arms and ate there twice a week, sometimes more. It was us that took our friends there expecting what was normaly lovely food. I am sorry but on this occasion it was not up to its normal standard also none of our party were shouting or abusive, yes we did ask the waitress how much longer our food would be. and we only told the truth about what we thought when the landlord asked us was everything alright. How on earth the previous customer could here the landlord shouting from the kitchen when we were in the ladies i find very strange unless he was in the ladies too. We live 1/4 mile away from the farmers arms and out of principle we will not go back because of the landlords defensive manner about his wifes cooking it could have been handled a lot better. Finaly the landlord also ran his own staff down to us stating that one of his female staff was a farmer it just sums up his immature attitude completely.

I would like to say how dissapointed when reading the previous review. We have been regular visitors to the farmers arms for some time now and will be returning shortly. The food the farmers arms produce has always been delicious on our visits and the service always warm, friendly and attentive especially from the landlord who is always ready to greet you with a pleasant smile. On this occassion I have to the say there were no difference the king scallops were cooked deliciously and my ribeye steak was superb, my wife had the homemade Chicken liver pate that she said was very good and the duck breast cooked pink over spiced apple and Red cabbage was to die for. My son and and His Fiance had the fresh home made lasagne followed by homemade Baileys Creme Brulee and homemade sticky toffee pudding. We abstained from the dessert as we were stll savouring our main courses. During the evening we overheard infact, i feel, most people over heard a table in the restaurant complaining about the wait and the lasagne not being a lasagne which i could not believe as my family were eating the same lasagne. I remem ber the owner being apologetic and explaining that his wife had made the lasagne earlier that evening before service fresh and that no one else had complained and he had sold eighteen portions. I agree with the owner my family had two and they were delicious. I even commented on that to him as he made his way to the bar. he thanked me for my comments, you could see from his slight teary eyes that the rude, unneccessary comments had upset him but he returned from the bar with an apology to the table by knocking off the perfectly made lasagne and a round of drinks and a bottle of Rose wine from the bill. I knew this to be the case as i was paying my bill when one of their party came to the bar to pay their bill and a lady from behind the bar explained what the owner had done as an apology. The owner, who was also at the bar didnt interfere or say a word as he was busy taking care of my bill which was very inexspensive for what we would describe as a excellent evening, The chocolates that accompanied the bill were also very nice. i would also like to defend the landlord as the previous writer explained he was shouting about it and talking to other tables about the lasagnes etc. Well infact as I was there it was myself, my son and his Fiance who were the ones commenting in a loud voice about the situation. The landlord smiled, but you could see he was very upset and all he said was thankyou for our comments. He quietly said that it was a Saturday night, they had just done 122 meals and he couldnt understand that people expected to get served in 5 minutes. He quietly explained that every thing is cooked fresh to order and on really busy nights it can take up to 40 minutes especially for people who hadnt booked as they will always try to give booked tables a bit of precidence. Which he felt was normal. He then mentioned that his till kept a programe of the time the order was taken and the time the meal left the kitchen and that they had only waited 44 mins and having not booked and turned up at 8.20 on a busy sat night whilst doing 122 meals he thought 42 minutes was pretty good. And i would agree, everyone should know on a busy sat night in a place that does fresh, cooked to order food it is going to take longer than it does in other places. I believe there are plenty of places that does fast food and customers like those should use them. I decided to write this review as the pub trade has been declining for years and feel there are not that many pubs nowadays that equal the quality and consistency of the farmers arms, which is why we keep going back. I also feel it is not fair on an establishment that work endlessy trying to promote local business, farmers, fruit and veg growers that one table can give such a damning review in an economy which is so bad at the moment. i just wish I was as perfect as this reviwer and never ever made a mistake in my employment.

We visited with friends who ate at The Farmers Arms regularly, but our high expectations started to tumble after waiting an hour for the food to arrive. We were about to leave when it turned up. 2 meals were excellent, 1 was fine, the lasagne was distinctly odd. We explained to the manager who was defensive to start with and then confrontational, telling us that others had had the lasagne & enjoyed it, asking people at the till if they'd enjoyed theirs because 'he didn't enjoy his' when my husband went to pay. I even heard him shouting about it when I visited the loo. His staff seemed more nervous about upsetting him than his customers. We won't be going back.

Unfortunately I was most disappointed with the Farmers Arms. We visited what looks like a lovely pub for some food on a Wednesday evening. The pub appeared relatively quiet with ample staff serving, but we waited 45 minutes for our rather mediocre food to arrive. Whilst the staff were very pleasant, an apology or explanation wasn't forthcoming and the food even more disappointing than the wait. The dessert took a further 25 minutes to arrive after having finished eating (despite having been ordered at the time of ordering the main courses), but was however most enjoyable. Had we not had to leave our car keys behind the bar because we were eating outside, we would have left before the food's arrival. Am wondering if perhaps this is a ploy to keep you there? A simple explanation at the time of ordering for the length of the wait would have been easier. We (a party of two) won't be returning.
