Hi - just to correct some of the nonsense here, please feel free to visit www.garrigill-pub.co.uk to find out what the real state of play is. The pub is currently closed, and we are actively looking for a tenant to re-open the pub. We have never submitted a planning application - this is pure fantasy on behalf of the 'Save the G & D campaign' who have had the offer to buy a lease from us 4 times over the past 3 years - rejected every-time - but then again most of them are 'Southerners' and not from the area. Never knew Mancunians were southerners before...

Sadly, this pub has been closed by the landlord and it is thought that a planning application for a change of use to a private house is being sought. What an absolute disgrace that this can be allowed to happen as the pub has been in existence as a pub since 1621. It has long been the weary travellers rest after an arduous trek over Cross Fell, as well as being a crucial part of a small but thriving community. I have over the last 3 years spent many a happy time in the company of locals enjoying the real ales and meeting up with friends to socialise. What we have here is a clear case of Southerners being able to buy up property, and bringing their misplaced southern ideas with them. There is no place for these people and their ideas in a remote Penine village, with its wonderful traditions and folk-lore. Furthermore, the Council ought to take action to preserve this way of life and stop southern influence destroying communities. Southerners go home and take your high falution' stupid ideas with you.
