We arrived at Stoke Place Hotel on time and at reception were told how to access the dining room. Having followed instructions, we arrived at a dining area which was more of a corridor than a dining room. The first table beside a window was adequate, but unfortunately unstable (one does not want to sit at a table eating when it continually rocks with each movement). We were shown to another table opposite the first, beside the flagstone corridor, and then placed our order with the waitress. The soup or chowder was not hot, merely warm and the mushrooms were far too oily the stuffing was of a gritty texture and contained far too much salt. The main course of Lamb was also not hot merely warm, and the flesh was extremely tough and inedible by my two older guests, furthermore it was quite unsightly as it was surrounded by fat that looked still white and was of a rubbery texture. The roast potatoes were too brown as though almost burnt and the insides were not white and fluffy as should be the case. We did not stay for desert or for coffee as the standard was so disappointing and the dining area was so cold that I had to retrieve a cardigan from the car for one of my guests. The waitress did ask us if everything was satisfactory and regretfully we had to advise her that it was not satisfactory. I merely asked for the bill and we left as quickly as possible. The management have not even responded to my letter of complaint dated 23rd May 2006, let alone addressed my complaint.
