My wife & I have been a member at Bannatynes, Livingston from just after it opened. Overall I am happy with the facilities, mainly the gym, which I use regularly at least 2 - 3 times/week. Hoever, I have one major complaint against this establishment & that is the high volume that music is played in the overhead speakers in the main gym. After I made a written complaint over a year ago the management did make the mezzanine a quiet workout area & generally the speakers are turned off here. However, I find that the volume coming from the main gym speakers is almost always, in my opinion, excessive & does carry up to the mezzanine. I have on many occasions wanted to use the equipment in the main gym but have found the experience, because of the noise levels a deterrent. I have approached the gym staff & to be fair, they have been good enough to turn the volume down but this is only a temporart solution. I have found that even if I am using ear phones with an MP3 player, with the volume on the device turned up to the maximum, I cannot mask the sound from the gym speakers. I am convinced that ther is a Health & Safety Issue here and that members attending on a regular basis are at risk from suffering Noise Induced Hearing Loss on a permanent basis. I implore the Management at Bannatynes, Livingston to seriously address this issue because I for one find my visits to the Club spoiled needlessly.
