Review of Windsor by Dorothy Beglin on September 13th, 2008
My father went to school with Sidney Camm, my family grew up in Windsor all 13 of us. As a child I spent many happy hours in the Windsor Great Park, many a time we came accross the late King George VI, he always stopped and spoke to us, a real gentleman. My most vivid memory of him was when a bomb nearly hit the Royal Lodge and just missed the Copper Horse. All the King said was that was a close one. My brother Clifford Smith has written a book called The Great Park and Windsor Forest. Foreword by The Price Philip. Duke of Edinburgh. a wealth of information, it took him 6years to write. Yours Sincerely Dorothy Beglin nee Smith.

Review of Windsor by Pete Butler on April 8th, 2006
The Long Walk through Windsor Great Park, is probably the best part to begin your exploration of Windsor. From Snow Hill [reputedly the place where Henry the Eighth sat, on horseback, waiting for the canons to fire from the Tower of London, signalling the successful execution of Anne Boleyn] where George the Fourth's great monument to his father, George the Third, crowns its summit..down the 3miles through beautiful woodland with great views of the Castle, until you reach the Castle gates, which front the huge towers of the George the Fourth Gateway. The entrance to the Castle is actually further west, at the end of the High Street, close by Henry the Eighth's Gate. The town of Windsor is a very lively place, full of activity, historic buildings, shops, restaurants and ancient inns, but of course it is the wonderful Castle that many really come to see. The only other Castle in the country that comes anywhere to its great dimensions is Arundel, down in Sussex - but they are very similar, as also confirmed by Queen Victoria during a visit to Arundel Castle in the 1850's. Windsor Castle produces one wonder after another, for the paying visitor: the State Appartments, the Semi State Appartments, Queen Mary's Doll's House, St George's Chapel and the Albert Memorial Chapel, Waterloo Chamber, St George's Hall, the Grand Staircase and Vestibule..it just goes on and on! A trip here you will remember for the rest of your life.
