Born 1943 - English children's writer.
Studied at King’s College, London. Began career as primary school teacher. Written more than 60 books for children including The Wreck of the Zanzibar (1995 – Whitbread award), The Butterfly Lion (1966- Smarties prize) and Black Queen (2000).
