Studied at Magdalene College, Oxford. Became editor of satirical magazine Private in 1986, columnist for other magazines and newspapers. Wrote television scripts including Spitting Image (1984-89) and Harry Enfield’s Television Programme (1990-92). Appeared as panellist on Have I Got News for You (1990-).
