British hero of the week February 3rd 2010

Alex Reid, born in Aldershot in 1975, is one of a new breed of media personalities finding fame through various high-profile methods of gaining public exposure, and eventually through a self-fulfilling celebrity status like his wife Katie Price .
Reid initially came to public attention, albeit limited, with an appearance as a contestant on televisionís Gladiator programme. In 1996 Reid joined the Territorial Army as a member of 10 Para, remaining with the unit for three years.
Following in the footsteps of alumni like Bill Nighy , Brenda Blethyn and Celia Imrie Reid studied acting at the Guildford School of Acting before winning a role in Hollyoaks, playing footballer Jason Cunliffe from 2001 to 2002.
The Hollyoaks role overlapped his work in professional mixed martial arts, where he fought professionally on 18 occasions between 2000 and 2010, his record early on better than in the latter part of that career. He has also worked as a personal fitness trainer.
Growing celebrity status was enhanced by Reidís dating of Katie Price in early 2009, and when he won Celebrity Big Brother in 2010 it went up several more notches, being confirmed by his subsequent marriage to Ms Price in Las Vegas in February 2010 shortly after that victory.
