(full name and title: John George Terry)
Born: December 7, 1980

John Terry is a professional footballer and captain of Chelsea and England. He has a reputation as one of the best defenders currently playing in world football.

He was born in Barking, Essex and began his football career playing for the Sunday league side Senrab FC; a team which at that time contained several future English Premiership names. He joined Chelsea's youth set up at the age of 14 and started out in the midfield. He moved to the central defence due to a shortage of players in that position and has remained there ever since.

It took Terry a couple a few years as a senior to establish himself in the Chelsea set up. His early years were marred by some drink related incidents, which led to a temporary bar from the England team. In the 2000-01 season he began to make a first team spot his own and his career has really taken off since. He was given the captaincy in the 2001-02 season for a game against Oldham Athletic and became the regular captain for the 2004-05 season under new coach José Mourinho. During the next few years Terry was to lead the side to two Premier League titles, an FA Cup and two League Cups. Despite the success of the team with Terry as captain and Mourinho as coach, the pair are reputed to have fallen out over time. Mourinho went on record as blaming this for his departure from Chelsea.

Terry has had some injury problems, which perhaps have prevented him from reaching his full potential in an England jersey. He still has occasional problems with the legal system. In March 2008 he was in the newspapers for ignoring a £60 fine and parking in a disabled spot; this despite there being a 50p car park within yards of the disabled space and the fact that John Terry earns in excess of £100,000 per week!
