Born on 9th of January 1929 | Famous Events in 1929

Born 1929 - Playwright and short story writer.
Studied for priesthood but did not enter the profession. First short stories appeared in the New Yorker. First play was This Doubtful Paradise (1959) followed by the successful Philadelphia, Here I Come (1964). Later plays included Translations (1980) and Dancing at Lughnasa (1990). Co-founded the Field Day Theatre Company (1980). Also wrote collections of short stories.
