Born 1854. Died 1932 - Scottish mechanical engineer.
Studied in Glasgow and Leeds. Researched theory and design of gas engines. In 1881 patented a gas engine working on the two stroke principle known as the Clerk cycle. Elected Fellow of the Royal Society in 1908. Knighted in 1917.
