If you are seeking unspoilt countryside and the peace and tranquillity that these surroundings can offer then a visit to Bishops Castle must surely be on your places to visit. The town centre plays host to a variety of traditional local shops which are sure to please, bearing in mind that Bishops Castle plays host to two breweries then there is always time for a visit to the local public house to enjoy their hospitality. For those who wish to immerse themselves in the history of the town then a visit to The House on Crutches Museum will provide an insight into the town and area in this historically important building that was originally constructed in the early 15th century. If, like most visitors to the area, you come to appreciate the surrounding countryside then there are numerous walks around the town and further afield, along Offa’s Dyke or the Shropshire Way. For those who wish to take their walking more seriously then Bishops Castle plays host to an annual three day programme of graded and guided walks – usually in June. However if you prefer horse riding or cycling then again Bishops Castle is an ideal location to use as a base with some great sounding place names such as the Kerry Ridgeway, The Long Mynd or even out to Stiperstones all of which form part of South West Shropshire.
