Sark is a small island positioned off the southern coast of England, It's only six miles from Guernsey, 14 miles from Jersey, and 18 miles from Aldernay which are the group of islands known as the Channel Islands. Sark is 80 miles from England's shores and just 24 miles from the French coast, stunning coastline edges the island blessed with a colourful tapestry of wild flowers woven between the green topped granite cliffs. Fine sandy beaches, and coves link back to Pirates in centuries past, the island was uninhabited until Good Queen Bess, or Elizabeth I gave the island to Helier de Carteret on the understanding that it would be protected against French invasions. There's no airport on the island so what better way to arrive than on board a boat, visitors can fly to Guernsey or Jersey before climbing aboard and sailing to this charming island that is split and comprises of two parts known as Greater Sark and Little Sark, joined together by a slither of rock known as La Coupe, which is a breath stealing Isthmus, the narrow road that was paintakingly built by prisoners of war journeys across the three hundred feet drop that ensures memories of the toe curling kind. Beautiful scenery is enhanced by the absence of vehicles, instead Islanders and visitors alike can either cycle or climb aboard the enchanting Horse drawn carriages for a journey forever remembered. Once famed for it's Silver Mines, today sees holiday makers searching for their own treasure of unforgettable scenes of Dolphines, and Puffins, whilst the fishermen dream of the one that got away at Maseline Harboour which was built in the 20th Century, or the older Creux Harbour. Swimming or snorkelling will uncover the oceans wonders which are only a few reasons to visit this pocket of paradise whose bewitching beauty casts it's spell unashamedly.
