Situated at the mouth of the River Parrett and Bridgewater Bay, Burnham on Sea is a popular seaside resort looking out over the Bristol Channel. The beach itself is part of a seven mile expanse of sandy beach stretching from Burnham on Sea to Brean Down. Burnham on Sea has the shortest pier in Britain. The beach is backed by dunes and provides a wonderful area for kite flying and sand yachting. The fine esplanade and seafront at Burnham on Sea overlooks Bridgwater Bay and the distant coast of Wales. There is a full range of accommodation available for the visitor along the coast, including holiday camps offering a variety of leisure activities and facilities. There are also a number of campsites to choose from. In August, Burnham on Sea holds Folkfest, an annual weekend festival with over 100 hours of free music and dance. Burnham-on-Sea is also home to Apex Leisure and Wildlife Park, 42 acres of park created from excavated clay pits. The pits were flooded to make lakes that are now home to many types of wildlife. The official animal of Burnham on Sea is the Tree Frog, due to links with nearby Brent Knoll, also known as the Isle of Frogs.
