Stretford is a town positioned in Greater Manchester, and is home to over thirty seven thousand people. The area was first settled many centuries ago, and from its humble beginnings it grew and prospered from pig farming, agriculture, and weaving, although with the arrival of the Industrial Revolution came the building of huge Mills in nearby Manchester and an upturn in the population. There is a fabulous Shopping Mall, covered market, and a good choice of pubs and restaurants to try. The Bridgewater Canal arrived in the 18th Century and played its part in the development of the town, which is sandwiched between The River Mersey and the impressive Manchester Ship Canal.
