Located in the County of Gwynedd the town of Penal is around 2 miles from Machynlleth on the A493 in Snowdonia in the valley of the River Dyfi. Close to Pennal there is evidence of a Roman Fort, its remains lie on a ridge running North East although little remains today however it does provide dating evidence that as early as 57AD that there were people living in the area.
