Taynuilt is a village in the Argyll region of Scotland situated by the south shore of Loch Etive to the west of Ben Cruachan, 12 miles north of Oban. Taynuilt is famous as the location of the last Scottish Parliament held in Gaelic in the Ardchattan Priory in1308: the ruins of the Valliscaulian priory lie on Loch Etive 6 miles north-east of Oban The ancient village has gravestones dating back to the 13th century and the ruins of Killespickerill, the seat of the Bishop of Argyll, date from 1228. The railway arrived in 1880 and the station stands at the north end of the main street. The village is still a popular tourist destination; it has a hotel and is well equipped with local shops and amenities, a tea-room and an interesting antique shop which sell dolls-houses. Taynuit has a country park and two beautiful beaches; a pebble beach at Airds Bay and Bonawe. Glen Nant is a National Nature Reserve abundant with wildlife. There is fishing facilities and boat cruises are available on Loch Etive. The Bonawe Iron Furnace is a historic ironworks and the Inverawe Fisheries has a smokehouse exhibition. Taynuilt has scenic walks and lies on the route of the Coast to Coast Walk going from Oban to St. Andrews.
