Uplawmoor is a small historic village in East Renfrewshire in Scotland situated beside Loch Libo, 3 miles south-west of Neilston. The village was for centuries associated with the Barony of Caldwell and the Mure family. During the 19th century Uplawmoor was the estate village for the workers of the Caldwell estate, with a saw-mill and tile works, handloom weaving, shoemaking and harness making. Following the Wars of the Covenant in the 20th century William Mure planned, developed and laid out Uplawmoor as a pretty ‘garden’ village. Historically interesting features include the Crossgates Cottage with its original Yew trees standing as an example of the Mures impressive house building skills. The village is associated with agriculture and has a strong farming community, it is surrounded by picturesque countryside with rolling hills and an abundance of wildlife. Uplawmoor is a popular tourist destination and an ideal base to visit the attractions of Glasgow and Ayrshire with regular transport links by both road and rail. The village has holiday accommodation, shops and amenities and places to eat out, there are walks, cycle trails, fishing and golf courses in the area. Nearby attractions include the City of Glasgow, the largest city in Scotland well-know for its history and culture, excellent shopping, an extensive choice of restaurants and a vibrant night-life with a selection of pubs and clubs.
