Linlithgow is an ancient Royal Burgh in west Lothian in Scotland situated 18 miles west of Edinburgh, famous for its Royal Palace, the birthplace of James V in 1512 and Mary Queen of Scots in 1542 The ruins of the magnificent 15th century Linlithgow Palace stand in beautiful parkland, known as the Peel, on a promontory jutting into Linlithgow Loch. Beside the Palace stands St Michaels Parish church, consecrated in 1242 and is a fine example of a large medieval church. The town is a popular tourist destination with its beautiful surroundings and interesting history which is told in The Linlithgow Story Museum in Annet House.
