This pretty village situated in the Weald of Sussex and has links with Romans, Saxons, Normans and of course Winnie the Pooh. Idyllic in it’s setting on the edge of the bewitching Ashdown Forest, where cycling walking and exploring will tempt. Henry VIII used to hunt in the forest for deer and wild boar, he frequently stayed in Hartfield at Bolebrook Castle which originates from 1480 and is the earliest brick building in Sussex. Presumably he enjoyed staying here as Anne Bolyn lived just 5 miles away in Hever Castle. Of course the famous author A.A. Milne lived in Hartfield and just a little way from the forest, where he spent an enormous amount of time and led to his famous creation of ‘Winnie’ when you venture into this enchanting and magical place you can almost hear Pooh and his friends playing ’Pooh Sticks’ from the bridge. The church dates back to 1250, the unusual black and white façade of the house with the Lychgate stands at the entrance to the church, For painters and photographers some of the very best views are obtained from the Church yard the inspiring vistas will add a dazzle to any masterpiece
