Events in Disley | 10 Places to Stay
The village of Disley lies about six miles south east of Stockport close to Peak District National Park and the Derbyshire border. A small village that is not noted in any historic books until around the early 16th century although it is believed that there has been a settlement here since Roman times as this would have been part of the main route for the Romans travelling between Buxton and Manchester.
Around 1640 the local inn was built, the Ram’s Head Inn however the present building bearing this name wasn’t erected until the 19th century when it was used by travellers and tourists who because of the railways were now able to visit places like the Peak District. Along with the railways came the canal network and this attracted industry, indeed at one time Disley had a cotton mill but unable to compete with those mills in larger towns it became a paper mill.
Disley today has a great appeal to visitors and residents alike, with its canalside walks, the Peak District close by, the quaint street scenes and the range of amenities it offers combined with good rail access to Manchester it is certainly a much sought after location.
