Polperro is undoubtedly one of the prettiest villages in Cornwall, the stunning harbour is sheltered by a cliff famed for it’s dark history of smuggling, and later attracted many artists and photographers. As you walk the narrow twisting streets, with ancient buildings and old fishermen’s cottages jumbled together, following in the footsteps of smugglers, who moved under the cloak of darkness, the past envelopes the visitor unashamedly. Perhaps a visit into one of the hidden cellars where smugglers once lingered and now are home to local crafts. The picturesque harbour is unrivalled, perhaps one of the boat trips on offer will tempt, whether it’s fishing or a pleasure trip and the possibility of seeing basking sharks and dolphins. Or a night time stroll to see the lights captured from the cottages and reflections dancing on the water. From the Museum on smuggling and fishing, the horse drawn bus with it’s colourful wagon, to the unbeatable cliff top walks where the rugged coastline promises sandy coves such as Talland and Lantivet Bay. With inspiring churches, Roman and Saxon bridges or perhaps the model village or house on stilts is more for you, Polperro is a captivating legacy waiting to be shared.
