Mawgan Porth is a quiet hamlet in a green carpeted valley, that reaches the sea on the north Cornish coast dating back to Saxon times. If you visit the inspiring church of St Mawgan with it’s 14th Century tower and peel of eight bells, take a moment to look around the church yard, see if you can see the stern of a rowing boat which commemorates ten men. This unspoilt village has a varied range of activities to offer the visitor such as horse riding, fishing or perhaps a trip to the stunning, unbelievably beautiful beach, cloaked by high cliffs, with a stream that flows down to the sea. Carnewas Island and Mine is close or a visit to Bedruthan Steps, said to be made by a giant, however more likely by Nature, leads you down to the beach where volcanic rock pillars rise from the sand, a cluster of caves, sandy coves, magical rock pools to explore, and nearby Diggory’s Island. Perhaps a walk inland , where the Vale Of Lanherne Trail can be followed through Carnanton Woods to the historic town old St Columb with it’s Medieval buildings. Mawgan Porth is a fairytale place that is very real.
