This village is located n the county of Derbyshire just to the north of the River Trent and south west of Nottingham and a village that can trace its history back to before the time of the Domesday Book, in fact there was a settlement here in the 7th century. Up until the 19th century though Long Eaton remained very much an agricultural settlement and it was then that the Industrial Revolution was to have an impact. Throughout its history the area had been well known as a centre for lace production and quarrying however with the coming of the railways and the canal network the town expanded rapidly, its population around 1870 was some 3,000 people and by the 1900’s the population count was a staggering 20,000 people. Whilst the town is technically in Derbyshire its proximity to Nottingham has an influence, during the 19th century the growth in employment around Long Eaton was a result of the lack of organised labour and therefore cheaper labour costs for the lace makers of Nottingham and today much of Long Eaton has a Nottingham postcode and telephone code. The town of Long Eaton is still today attracting visitors, Trent Lock is just an easy amble down from the town centre and here you’ll find the centre for boating and sailing whilst there are the Blue Mountain Cottages and Clock House to see here in the Borough of Erewash.
