Latest reviews | Events in West Down
West Down is a small Devonshire village with narrow lanes and attractive buildings, surrounded by picturesque countryside that’s rarely resisted by walkers. The 14th Century church of St Calixtus makes an interesting interlude, or if exploring a Museum sounds pleasurable then nearby Ilfracombe Museum has an eclectic mix from spiders to medals, or perhaps try your hand at the Brass Rubbing Centre. There is an interesting tale waiting to be shared at Braunton Museum whose local history is proudly displayed, or for history of a different kind take a look at 11th Century Chambercombe Manor, where eight evocative rooms span the passages of time. Or why not climb aboard a fabulous Horse Drawn Carriage at Arlington Court where splendid Georgian elegance rewinds time. Maybe the thought of seeing an impressive 16th Century Watermill still producing flour will tempt a visit to The Old Corn Mill and Pottery. Surfers will enjoy Croyde Bay, where pleasing surfing is to be had, or of course the sugar soft sand at Woolacombe Beach may be favourite. Younger visitors are entertained at Combe Martin Wildlife and Dinosaur Park where adrenaline pumping rides, animals, shows, and Dinosaurs are the order of the day, there’s even real Dinosaur Eggs in the Museum.
