The South Somerset village of Culmhead is situated in a glorious location close to the Devon border. The area offers spectacular scenery and is perfect for those who enjoy the outdoors, whether that be exploring nature or indulging in more sporting activities. Between 1841-1875, the area was famous for its lime kiln which produced Slaked Lime. Slaked Lime was used in both the agricultural and building industries. Most of the old buildings in the surrounding areas would have had Slaked Lime used in their construction. The Holman Clavel Inn has stood in Culmhead since the 1500’s. It served as a stop off point for monks travelling to Glastonbury. The Inn is reported to be haunted, with visitors recounting stories of being woken in the middle of the night with the sounds of skittles being played in the skittle alley. “Charlie the ghost” Is described as a monk in a long, flowing white robe. In the splendid Blackdown Hills set in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, is the family run quiet and peaceful Holly Bush Park caravan and camping site. The 2 acre site has all the amenities required by guests and the woods nearby provide excellent bird watching opportunities.
