Ashwater is a small picturesque rural village in the North-West of Devon. It is the epitome of an archetypal English country village with a school, 13th Century church, Parish Hall, village store/Post-Office and an Inn situated right on the village green. The village green of course is the site of many village events including an annual Easter egg hunt. There is also a Methodist chapel and graveyard just outside the village. Visit this peaceful and idyllic spot on a clear day and you will be able to enjoy a view of both Dartmoor and Bodmin Moor. Ashwater Parish church which serves the village and a handful of surrounding hamlets, is dedicated to St Peter ad Vincula, a less common dedication among churches which means “St Peter In Chains”. This unusual dedication is shared with the prison chapel at the Tower of London. The church Norman Cornish font dates from the 13th Century and although the building was originally erected in 1250, most of what stands today is believed to be as a result of later restorations. Village life and public amenities all centre around the village green, with everything on offer in Ashwater within walking distance of this focal point.
