Buckhurst Hill is a suburban town in the Epping Forest district of Essex. It forms part of the Greater London Urban Area and is roughly 11 miles from central London. With Loughton and Chigwell, it is said to form part of the wealthy ‘Essex golden triangle’. A mixture of shops and restaurants can be found on Queens Road in Buckhurst Hill. Nearby attractions are mostly to be found in Epping Forest and include Queen Elizabeth I’s Hunting Lodge on Ranger's Road. Queen Elizabeth was said to have been hunting in Epping Forest when she received news of the defeat of the Spanish Armada, and returned to the lodge to feast that evening. Also on Rangers Road is Pole Hill, one of the highest places in the county and one of the best views. An Obelisk marks the Greenwich Meridian. Ambresbury Banks, situated in Epping Forest off the Wake Arms Roundabout, is an ancient Stone Age settlement which is also believed to be the site where Queen Boudicca made her last stand against the Romans. The Church Of The Holy Innocents, situated in the heart of Epping Forest and built in 1873, and Waltham Abbey are both close by. Buckhurst Hill tube station is on the Central Line
