The Eastleigh Borough - (or the Hamble Valley) has coastline which stretches a long the Solent and the Hamble river in Hampshire along the South Coast of England together with 800 acres of adjoining unspoilt countryside. The Hamble River is ideal for weekend excursions on the Solent and is also a base for national and international yachtsmen. Hamble village is a popular place to visit, where you can watch the world go by on the quay or from the three marinas, and the children will love the crabbing on the quay. On top of that there are a number of bars and restaurants in the pretty village to indulge yourselves! The Hamble valley has a fascinating history and heritage sites, including the gothic ruins of 13th century Netley Abbey, Netley Chapel, (left from the military hospital during the war) a working Victorian Farm at Manor Farm, and Hampshire's only working Windmill at Bursledon. Along with some famous names who lived in or frequented the area: Jane Austen, Queen Victoria, Nelson, RJ Mitchell (who designed the spitfire and was first flown at Eastleigh airport), to name a few, you'll find there is quite a lot to learn about the Hamble Valley. Eastleigh town centre boasts The Point dance and arts centre, situated in the beautifully refurbished Victorian town hall were you can find a varied programme of professional theatre, contemporary and traditional dance, comedy, opera and film. There are also two sculpture Trails which take in a variety of public art around the area. Population 110,000
