A village of 729 people, it is best known for its service station and close proximity to the M25 and A1M, South Mimms is part of the London Borough of Barnet but is in Hertfordshire. St Giles’ church there was built between 1140 and 1552 housing many fine artefacts. The village is also home to pubs the White Hart and The Black Horse and a National Cycle Route that passes through the services – a unique feature! The Welcome Break services are naturally named after the village and were in fact featured in the video for the football anthem “3 Lions”. Another claim to fame is their 2006 Loo of the Year 4 Star Award! The services were built in 1986 and were the first services on the M25. Often criticised for being situated at such a busy motorway intersection they are therefore ideal for travellers and the convergence of roads is fantastic for conferences. They were rebuilt in 1998 after a severe fire caused by deep-frying of food and an insufficient fire suppression system destroyed the services - lessons have been learnt from this incident and South Mimms services have benefitted.
