Smarden is an attractive village with an intriguing history in the garden County of Kent, home to twelve hundred people. The woollen industry played its part in the growth of the village a legacy of which can be seen with the impressive collection of ancient houses spanning the centuries. At the heart of the village stands the 14th Century church dedicated to St Michael renowned for its unusual nave. Today's visitor will definitely enjoy the timeless feel when strolling along the banks of the River Beult which flows through the village that has three shops, three pubs, and an inspiring art gallery that tempts artists to reach for a brush to capture the surrounding woodland countryside.
