Sutton Cheney is a small picturesque village set deep within the heart of the Leicestershire Countryside home to just over five hundred people. Narrow lanes where the warm hue of red brick cottages are unveiled at every turn, and the two ancient Coaching Inns forge a link with the past. This pocket of Leicester is famed for it's royal visitor, King Richard III who came to the village church of St James for mass and reflection the very night before a bloody battle was fought at the Battle Of Bosworth, which took place on the 22nd August 1485. The battle was the last in the infamous Wars of The Roses, and saw the demise of Richard III, and the rise to power of Henry VIII and the start of the Tudor Dynasty. Time it right and an impressive re-enactment will be taking place where the clash of swords and Knights on Horseback conjure the poignant tale. Pleasing countryside waiting to be explored, and the Ashby-De-La-Zouch Canal where Narrow Boats glide on a gentle journey through changing scenery, landlubbers prefer the tow path where the possibility of catching a glimpse of the blue flash of the Kingfisher is always tempting, Sutton Cheyney's spell is left unbroken.
