Earl Shilton is a large village in Leicestershire that was once famed for it’s boot and shoe manufacture and production of hosiery, it has a rich tapestry of history dating back to the Iron Age, now home to 9065 people. With the close proximity of the Ashby Canal the chance to sample the delights that it has to offer is one that should be eagerly taken, from walks along the Tow Path, boat trips, or trying to capture the wonders of Mother Nature on canvas. Or how about Thornton Reservoir, spreading over 75 acres, where cycle trails are part of the National Cycle Network, and fishermen take advantage of the Trout on offer. If that all sounds a bit too quiet, then the Mallory Park Circuit offers the noise and thrill of Motor Sport and the British Super Bike Championships. For animal lovers Tropical Birdland is home to over 600 birds from colourful Parrots and Macaws who fly freely, to exotic treasures housed in a delightful walk through Aviary, or there is always the fascination of the Jewry Wall that has survived for two thousand years, remains of the Roman Baths and Museum where the story of Leicester’s past is told through spellbinding exhibits.
