Delgany is a charming village nestling below the forested hills of north-east Wicklow. It's a perfect location for visitors wishing to relax in the countryside, with the bonus of easy access to Dublin city, only sixteen miles to the north. This is great golfing country. There are several fine courses in the area including Delgany Golf Club, which offers sensational views over land and sea. More adventurous activities include paintballing in nearby Kilternan, also the location of Ireland's only dry ski slope. Delgany has some lovely walking routes to explore, from wild, woodland pathways to the village's own heritage trail. The Glen Of The Downs, a nature reserve set in a deep, oak-clad valley, is home to all kinds of wildlife. However, the beautiful Glen was not always so peaceful: it was famously occupied in the late Nineties by eco warriors protesting at the upgrading of the existing road to a dual carriageway. Delgany, a traditional village, has some interesting historical sights to discover. The Old Burial Ground holds the remains of an ancient Celtic cross as well as a 13th Century church ruin and graves dating back to the 1700s. Delgany is also the location of a Carmelite convent.
