The village of Clarinbridge enjoys a beautiful setting on the River Clarin, near the head of Dunbulcaun Bay - an inlet of Galway Bay. With its award-winning village green, Clarinbridge has all the ingredients for a magical holiday on Ireland's west coast, surrounded by castles, green forests, great fishing waters, historic monuments and welcoming pubs. It also provides an ideal base for exploring Galway City, only ten minutes away, or the more distant attractions of County Clare. However, its biggest claim to fame is oysters. People travel from far and wide for the internationally renowned Oyster Festival, which has taken place in Clarinbridge every September for more than fifty years. For all of its friendly tradition, the village also has a modern retail complex, including a health and beauty spa. Kilcornan House, a former 16th Century castle turned stately home, now operates as a training centre for the disabled, and its beautiful woodlands are open to the public. The nearby village of Kilcolgan is notable for its castle, and the atmospheric ruins of Tyrone House. Only a few miles further south in the village of Ardrahan is the dramatic Tullira Castle. Ardrahan is also well-known for its ancient ring forts.
