Water Sports in Sussex

Britain is literally surrounded by water. And within the coastline there’s even more of the stuff in the form of rivers, lakes and ponds. No surprise then to learn that generally we Brits love the stuff and we’ve probably been using it for sport and leisure since the age of the coracle. Water sports include a myriad of activities nowadays. You could choose an exhilarating ride behind a speedboat at the Mount Batten Centre in Plymouth. Or perhaps you’d prefer a peaceful day’s sailing on Derwent Water? The invention of the Jet-Ski, or personal watercraft, has brought the thrill of speed on water within reach of most people. Whether you choose to ride offshore in the sea (keeping to designated areas of course) or on a lake you’re in for maximum fun. Not all water sports take place on water, some are carried out below the surface. Diving is a very well established sport in the UK and there are many diving centres around the UK coastline. You don’t even need the sea to go diving as there are even opportunities to go underwater inland. Surfing may be a pastime more usually associated with Australia’s Gold Coast or the beaches of California but Britain has surf and many surfers who religiously follow it. Cornwall is famous for UK surfing, Padstow is even home to the O’Neill Surf Academy.
