Set in picturesque, landscaped gardens, this regency country house hotel is found in the heart of the Lake District. Located just a quarter mile from Lake Windermere and a short walk from the centre of Ambleside, the hotel is ideally situated for walking, cycling, sightseeing or just relaxing.
This regency country house hotel was built in 1825 as a summer residence for a Liverpool cotton merchant. The building is grade II listed and retains many period features. Fresh flowers and antiques give the feel of a welcoming private house, where lounges are ideal for relaxing over afternoon tea or pre-dinner drinks. Rothay Manor is renowned for its warm, comfortable, relaxed and friendly atmosphere, complemented by excellent food and wine. Guests have free use of a nearby leisure club. Families and disabled guests are welcome

Fresh fillet of cod served with a shellfish salsa of mussels, clams & prawns flavoured with lemon and coriander, new potatoes and mange tout
Shoulder of Cumbrian fell-bred lamb slowly braised with root vegetables, red wine, tomatoes and herbs, served off the bone on a bed of braised red cabbage with a sweet potato mash, broad beans and a rich lamb sauce flavoured with rosemary & tomato
Roast chicken breast served on a potato rosti topped with a duxelle of lentils & vegetables, accompanied by courgettes, glazed carrots and a chive sauce
Fillet of salmon served on a potato pancake with baby spinach, asparagus and a spring onion and crème fraiche topping, garnished with herb oil
A basil & parmesan roulade with ricotta, goat’s cheese and sun-blushed tomatoes, served on a compote of cherry tomatoes & basil with new potatoes and courgettes (v)
Medallions of prime fillet of fell-bred Cumbrian beef served medium-rare with pommes Anna, Paris brown mushrooms, baby spinach leaves and a red wine & thyme sauce
