Born 1771. Died 1845 - English clergyman and essayist.

Educated at New College, Oxford. Ordained in 1794. Lived in London for six years becoming well known as preacher, lecturer and excellent speaker. Appointed canon of St Paul’s in 1831. Wrote articles, letters and pamphlets on a wide range of subjects including the Ballot, game laws and prison laws. Remembered as creator of Mrs Partington.
