Alexander Selkirk

Born1676. Died 1721 - Scottish sailor.
Spent four years as a castaway when he was marooned on an uninhabited island (now known as Robinson Crusoe Island). It is thought that his experience provided the inspiration for Daniel Defoe's novel Robinson Crusoe.
